Blue elderberry

Required material

1 - 2 tsp elderberry juice from ripe fruit

For the juice:

1 kg ripe elderberries, will yield approx. 1 litre of elderberry juice

1 big pot

1 - 2 glasses water

1 cloth

Glass bottles

200 g sugar

Some lemon juice or citric acid (available from pharmacies and drug stores)

Application

If you have an elderberry bush in your garden, you can collect the very ripe, hanging berries, boil them with 1 to 2 glasses of water in a big pot, and strain them through a cloth (which will be permanently stained).

To make it preservable, boil the elderberry juice again with 200 g sugar and some lemon juice or citric acid. Pour the hot juice into sterilised bottles and store in a cool place.

Finished products are also available from drug stores and pharmacies.

Helps for colds and flu, both as a preventive measure and in acute stages of the illness. Take 1 - 2 teaspoons of elderberry juice every day.
